If you would like to hear and savor hot local talent this weekend in a cool setting, get yourself down to Alexandria's Metro Stage to hear singer Gary E. Vincent (fresh from appearances at New York's Triad Theater) in a terrific one-man show. His accompanist is our neighbor William Hubbard, a brilliant pianist, composer, musician, actor, vocalist and arranger.
Mr. Hubbard is a past winner of D.C.'s prestigious Helen Hayes award for Arena Stage's production of Crowns. He is internationally known for his gospel hymn "I Love You Lord Today" and doubles as music director at Ebenezer Baptist Church when he's not performing in New York, Atlanta, Paris or Milan. Mr. Hubbard's grandmother Lucille is fondly remembered as a long-time resident of N. Fayette Street, where her grandson now lives when he isn't on the road.
The Growler caught the Friday opening; and there will be repeats both Saturday and Sunday night.

It was such a pleasure to join my neighbors in celebration of William's performance last night at Metro Stage. Both men were outstanding! Please go and enjoy!
William lives across the street and I could feel his grandmother smiling down. When I saw his brother James at the grocery this morning I told him everybody left with their toes tapping.
Gary Vincent and William Hubbard were absolutely phenomenal. They both perform as if they are on stage on Broadway. Vincent is in constant motion and he has a presence that will stay with you long after the performance. He comes on stage grabbing your attention and he does not stop until the end of the show. He does one duet with Hubbard that is a testament to their talent. They seemed to feed off of one another.
The musical selections were perfect for the audience and my only regret is that many of our
friends and neighbors will not get to see him because the last show was tonight. Vicent and Hubbard R0CK!!! and I hope they will return somewhere in Alexandria very soon
