It's going to be a sizzler this weekend, with temps rising into the high 90s. Here's two events worth checking into:
Children's Arts Festival
Ahoy mateys! Set course for a swashbuckling good time at the annual Alexandria Symphony Orchestra Children's Arts Festival, which this year features a Caribbean theme, complete with pirate costumes and limbo contests. There's also an "instrument petting zoo," plus dance and other arts activities.
The festival will be held Sunday, June 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall on the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (3001 North Beauregard Street) and admission is $5.00.
Sample the pupusas and chimichangas at the eight annual Arlandria-Chirilagua Festival, which will be held Sunday, June 8 from noon until 7 p.m. in the 3600-3800 blocks of Mount Vernon Avenue. There will be lots of food from all over Latin America, live music and information about neighborhood organizations. Admission is free.
