LIghten Up!

This will be the Growler's last post of the year, so let's have some fun!

But first, a confession. Nothing brings a smile to the Growler's face faster than a display of elaborate Christmas lights.

Several years ago, the Cranky One found the grandest light show in our area and thought readers and their kids would like to know about it too.

It's the home of George and Nancy Barbari at 6634 S. Kings Highway. The residence is located at the intersection of S. Kings Highway and Memorial Street in the Fairfax County section of Alexandria. It's easy to get there. Just take Route 1 south out of Old Town, and then turn off onto S. Kings Highway.

The photo above doesn't begin to do justice to this site, which is visited by thousands during the holidays.

One of the biggest draws? A small, working Christmas train that seats 13 children. This year, the homeowners will offer train rides for kids from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on December 22, 23, and 24.

So check it out and enjoy the lights and the fun, and Merry Christmas to all!

Thank you Growler for the mention of the home in Alexandria with the beautiful holiday decorations. After seeing your posting, I took my family by the home and was not dissappointed. A winter wonderland!

I was drawn to go to this exhibit by your posting. And I did go, and found it amazing.

And then as I came back, I realized something like that could never be displayed in our neighborhood, due to the threat of thugs vandalizing it, thieves stealing it, or fools loitering in front of it at 3 AM.

A thought only reinforced by the condom and 3 broken Burnett's bottles in the street of my neighborhood. I guess that is my XMAS display to look at.

Happy new year to all. May it be better than the last

I can beat that "display". I found a used pregnancy test in my bushes last night. Less than 10 yards from a trash can.

Maybe Dixon can talk about that in his 2 hour sermons....

I was surprised Growler didnt have a posting about the last area plan meeting on public housing, which was one of the more surreal meetings I have ever attended. 2 hours of rehashing the exact same material already covered at a session supposedly meant to cover one of the most pressing concerns in the area.

The number of walkouts I saw in the meeting was stunning.
