Time for the Growler to catch up with fast breaking news.
Queen Payne Market
The Growler learned yesterday that Matuli Faustin has withdrawn his application for a special use permit (SUP) to offer carry out at the Queen Payne Market. The matter will therefore not be heard by Planning Commission or City Council.
The Growler commends Mr. Faustin for taking this sensible action, which will help maintain his good relationship with the community.
ShotSpotter
Remember the Growler's posting earlier this year about gunshots in the neighborhood and a technology called ShotSpotter that can help cops quickly target the location of gunfire?
Earlier this week, the Washington Post prominently featured an article on the District's successful implementation of ShotSpotter, which is being used in conjunction with surveillance cameras to battle crime.
Parker-Gray PU
On a lighter but not sweeter note ...
Rosemont residents have complained in the past about CSX train engineers who blast their horns while speeding through the residential area of Alexandria. But now it seems there's some in our Parker-Gray neighborhood who are also unhappy with CSX — but for an entirely different reason.
Apparently the railroad parks a fragrant garbage train on the tracks near Braddock Road Metro for several hours in the early morning each month.
One unhappy resident who complained to CSX was told that the train is parked to free the tracks for the commuter lines during rush hour. While that may be reasonable, is there no better spot for the stinking cargo than the middle of a residential neighborhood?
As the Growler's source put it, "I guess if you come across any rats with New Jersey accents, you'll know how they got here."

Just an update an the Del Ray shooting this morning. We googled the name of the victim (Bethlehem Ayele) and she was involved as a primary witness in a Federal RICO drug trial in DC against 6 young drug dealers...suspect that they just got out of prison and hunted her down. Not too reassuring but looks like a revenge killing spilling out from DC. Scary.
Any way we can help her family?
As far as a DC connection with PG riffraff, heck, we've known about that for awhile.
"DC connection with PG riffraff"
Blogger, are you suggesting that ParkerGray and last night's murder are somehow connected? How?
And why would the revenge happen here?
Gee could it be because Arlandria and Parker Gray are essentially lawless late at night, in an almost anything goes kind of way?
How did they know to find her at that corner? How surprised will we be when we find out who did and voila; they magically come from Arlandria or Parker Gray.
This kind of stuff is both sad and predictable. But they, Gaines is still crowing that we just need more trash cans and lights and all the crime and trash piles will go away.
And to the blogger who recently claimed that crime in Parker Gray was all overblown by fradey cat white people who just are too rich to get caught and do all their drug dealing in private:
Blacks killing other blacks yet again. Explain how this incident is the white mans fault. find the connection, please, try...
Black people killing other black people. Each and near every time in PG and Arlandria
I was forced to take the metro a few months ago while I was getting a new car. One of the days, I had to stand on the platform while that train sat right behind the station. It took about 20 minutes for the metro to come, and I seriously thought I was going to be ill. I could smell it even while walking down West street before making the turn at La Piazza. It was disgusting.
Lofts bloggers: as long as the Growler is updating previous postings how was EYA's public housing presentation to your condo group? Any new news to share?
As a Lofts resident, I would say the Growler catpured most of the presentation quite well. The general sense is something is better than nothing, and also that the City is adamant in enforcing their 1:1 rule and their continued public housing concentration in Parker Gray, no matter how many complaints they get
